Schwarber jack lifts Cubs, Quintana over Cards (Sun, 22 Jul 2018)
Kyle Schwarber broke a sixth-inning tie with a solo homer to help the Cubs come away with a series win in a five-game set vs. the Cardinals. Cubs starter Jose Quintana tossed seven quality innings, allowing two runs on six hits, including a bunt single to leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter -- whose six-game home run streak came to an end. Willson Contreras had a pair of RBI singles to help lead the Cubs' offense.

Cubs call on Farrell for spot start vs. D-backs (Sun, 22 Jul 2018)
Luke Farrell will make his second start of the season on Monday to open a four-game series against the D-backs. The Cubs needed a spot starter because of Saturday's doubleheader. He's made six starts at Triple-A Iowa this season and one with the Cubs on June 23 against the Reds. In that game, the right-hander gave up three runs over 2 2/3 innings. Farrell has never faced the D-backs in his young career. Arizona will counter with Patrick Corbin, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field.

All-Star Javier Baez drove in two runs to raise his National League-leading total to 74 and back Tyler Chatwood, who initiated a well-timed double play that seemed to spark the Cubs to a 7-2 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at Wrigley Field. Chatwood allowed one hit -- Matt Carpenter's 24th home run -- over 5 1/3 innings. It was Carpenter's fifth straight game with a homer. Cardinals starter Luke Weaver gave up three straight singles on four pitches in the fifth before he was lifted.
