Schwarber powers Cubs; magic number at 5 (Sun, 23 Sep 2018)
Kyle Schwarber smacked a 444-foot homer and an RBI double to back Kyle Hendricks and carry the Cubs to their 91st win of the season with one week of games to go. Both teams tipped their caps to retiring White Sox broadcaster Ken "Hawk" Harrelson on the field after the game. It was Harrelson's last broadcast after a 42-year career and 33 years with the White Sox.

Hamels opens vs. Bucs as hunt continues (Sun, 23 Sep 2018)
Cole Hamels (4-1, 2.42 ERA with Cubs) will make his 11th start for Chicago in the series opener Monday night, facing the Pirates' Jameson Taillon (13-9, 3.24). Hamels is coming off a loss to the D-backs in which he gave up seven runs over six innings. He's been charged with 14 earned runs over 24 1/3 innings over his past four starts. Hamels has beaten the Pirates twice this year, including a start of seven shutout innings on Aug. 17 in Pittsburgh. The Cubs enter their final week of games with a 2 1/2-game lead over Milwaukee to clinch the NL Central. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT from Wrigley Field.

Cubs recall Freeman for shortstop depth (Sat, 22 Sep 2018)
The Cubs added some infield depth on Saturday, selecting the contract of Mike Freeman from Triple-a Iowa. Freeman, who joined the Cubs on Saturday, has been working out since the Minor League season ended but also has been preparing for his first child.

Jon Lester worked five innings for his 17th win, tying for the NL lead, while Tim Anderson homered off him to become the first White Sox shortstop to record a 20-HR, 20-steal season.
